Gretel Doherty

Gretel is a Senior Officer on Calvert Impact’s Risk Management team, supporting credit analysis, due diligence, portfolio monitoring, and risk oversight across the organization’s investments.

Before joining Calvert Impact, Gretel spent over a decade at Root Capital, a global impact lender financing agricultural enterprises in emerging markets. During her time there, she led credit policy and credit administration, overseeing underwriting standards, loan closing and documentation, and complex multi-lender transactions. She also managed risk oversight and reporting for a $75 million U.S. DFC-backed guarantee facility.

Gretel has more than 15 years of experience in development and impact finance across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Earlier in her career, she worked with Cyrano Management, Women’s World Banking, CGAP, and other organizations focused on expanding access to finance. She also worked as an independent consultant preparing investment analyses for what was then Calvert Foundation.

Gretel holds a Master in Public Affairs from Princeton University and a B.A. in Economics, International Studies, and Anthropology from Macalester College. She is fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese and lives in Rockville, Maryland, with her family and two dogs.
